Walking is not just a good form of exercise, it benefits you physically, mentally, and spirituality. Let’s look at each of these points in detail.


Walking improves your fitness, improves circulation, less stress on the joints, improves posture, aids in weight loss, prevention of disease and illness and the list goes on..For example, a study published by the British Journal shown improvements in the quality of life, reduction of body fat and weight, and reduced cholesterol. When you are walking outdoors, your body will benefit from the sunshine in so many ways, not just absorption of Vitamin D. We as humans are not meant to be indoors, and sitting all day. We need to get out, get fresh air, exercise, and sunshine.


Walking on a regular basis at least 3-5 days a week, improves your mood, alleviates depression, and Increases your creativity to name few. Walking definitely boosts mental health and self esteem. One study found that just 12 minutes of walking resulted in joviality, vigor, attentiveness and self confidence verses the same time spend just sitting.


Walking for me is a meditation by itself.  It increases focusing and awareness. Whenever I am walking, my attention is on my body, breath and my surroundings all at the same time. Before I embark on my walk, I do a few simple yoga stretches and practice breathing exercises. As I walk, I feel the tension and the relaxation and enjoy them both. I try not to complain or judge how my body feel, I simply make comfortable changes when needed. Not only does walking benefit you physically and mentally, it will increase your awareness of yourself and the world around you. It’s a wonderful meditation.

So get up, get dressed, get outside and get walking. You can start small just a few minutes and work your way up. Your body and mind will thank you.
